13.03.2012

Finland's Ministry Employment and Economy has a vision where the concrete suburbs that have matured into the basic maintenance age will be reconstructed beautiful and energy efficient by using wood.

According to the Ministry, the old apartment buildings and their heat leaking walls could be renovated by lining the walls with wood based elements.

The not so far away future sees 570, 000 apartment buildings become ripe for a renovation and the Development Chief of the Ministry, Mr. Markku Karjalainen, estimates that the upcoming façade renovations will require EUR 32 billion.

This new renovation method has been successfully tried in Riihimäki where the building has achieved up to 75 per cent saving in energy due to insulation and heat retrieval installed in the air conditioning. (Source: www.tekniikkatalous.fi, 7.3.2012)
