3D Printing And Material Technologies To Boost Finnish Exports In The Future?

25.09.2013

Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT) and Aalto University envision 3D printing and related material technology research boosting Finnish exports. According to VTT’s project manager, Erja Turunen, Finland has great advantage and potential to develop these technologies. Finland has always been good at value added products, not in mass production. Additionally, Finland is good at combining different areas of expertise, which is needed in 3D-printing technology.

The organisations expect 3D technology to revolutionize modern industry. After all, when spare parts can be ”printed” on site, logistics costs drop dramatically. Especially machinery and energy sectors could benefit from these developments substantially. (Source: www.yle.fi, 19.9.2013)
