Biofuel and biogas industries are rapidly growing in Finland. Recent R&D from several businesses, increasing petroleum prices and biofuel distribution obligation set in 2011 have increased investments in the field. Finnish goverment has declared € 100 million contribution package for traffic biofuels.
At the moment, the biggest undertaking in Finland is UPM’s € 150 million biorefinery in Lappeenranta. Other large investments include Vapo Forest BTL’s biodiesel projects in Kemi and Kaskinen, which are estimated to cost over € 100 million. There are a number of smaller investments in the field made by Stora Enso, Gasum and Fortum. (Source: www.tekniikkatalous.fi, 15.8.2013)
