A Finnish shipping company VG-Shipping is preparing to build a new bio fuel oil plant to Uusikaupunki, which would produce bio fuel oil for seafaring. The main reason for the investment is the new sulphur directive which will come into effect from the beginning of 2015.
Previously bio oil has been mainly produced from chum in Uusikaupunki but in the near future it will be produced also from used vegetable oils and forest industry’s by-products. Bio oil is seen as an environmentally friendly solution but also financially competitive with MGO. (Source: www.m.ts.fi, 28.10.2014)
