Mineral Cluster Developments In Europe

The European Institute of Innovation and Technology has decided to fund a mineral sector innovation cluster EIT Raw Materials. The cluster will have 6 different locations, one of which will be in Otaniemi Espoo. Other locations are in Luulaja Sweden, Leuven Belgium, Wroclaw Poland, Metz France and Rome Italy. The cluster will consist of over 120 businesses, universities and research centres all over Europe.

The institute will invest EUR 270 million to the cluster during the first 5 years. The investment will be used to activate business transactions, support creating new businesses and to organize versatile education. The goal is to create 10 000 new jobs, start up 50 new companies and educate 8 000 new entrepreneurs in Europe. In the beginning phase EIT Raw Materials will concentrate on solving the raw material needs for information technology, infrastructure, energy sector and machine and equipment production.
