IMPORT & EXPORT

The Finnish food imports have increased slightly in the recent years. In 2013, the value of the food import was EUR 4.3 billion. The same year, the value of the export of food was EUR 1.6 billion. The market share of Finnish food products is 80 % but imported foods are growing in popularity, especially among the younger generations.

The most important import products are beverages, fruits, cheeses, vegetables, modified starch, oil seeds, nuts and different fish products. The most important import countries are Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, USA, Russia and China.

The most important export products, on the other hand, are dairy products, grain products, drinks, meats, sugar preparations, coffee and spices. Most of the food product export goes to Europe, the most important export countries being Russia, Sweden and Estonia which account about 50% of Finnish food exports. Other important markets are Germany, Denmark and Norway.
