Growing e-commerce is bringing business to the Finnish packing industry due to the increasing demand for packaging materials. Stora Enso is investing €110 million to transform a fine paper machine in Varkaus to produce raw material for primary fibre-based corrugated cardboard.
The plan is to convert the factory in autumn 2015, and have it running in the last quarter of 2015. When finished, the factory’s annual capacity will be about 390 000 tonnes of corrugated board raw material and 310 000 tonnes of brown unbleached kraft pulp.
